Andrew Bjrring Anderson

Summertime is upon us and it's so hot! When temps get like this, it seems like a cool treat is always the answer.

Andrew B. Anderson was my great-great grandfather. I think he could have used a cool treat after this childhood experience:

"I had recently recovered from a serious sickness of typhoid fever and for weeks I had been bothered with a swelling under my left jaw that terminated into a running sore. There were no doctors. Many friends and sympathizers contributed advice. To relieve the pain and suffering, I stood before the looking glass and with my lead pencil and pen holder, tore the lining of my tonsils, thereby creating a drain that eased my pain."

What a brave kid to take out his own tonsils! Drastic times call for drastic measures!
